The failure of reason
Work often reminds me of just how infantile the world is, just how stupid the powers-that-be can be. It’s a place where age and experience are rewarded for no other reason than they happen to everyone who doesn’t die. Humans, who are nothing if not hierarchal, always seeking order and stability in a chaotic system, will abandon almost any virtue in order to maintain this. We will hail thieves as kings if it suits the prevailing order. We will burn healers at the stake. We will march lockstep to the pronouncements of madmen. The fear of chaos is as inherent to humanity as magnetic north is to the earth.
