Freeload: Brian McKnight – “What I’ve Been Waiting For”

Here’s a breath of fresh air for the grown folks in the house. I grew up on some Brian McKnight, all the way back to “One Last Cry” which nursed me through my first major breakup in 9th grade. Remember that like yesterday. Her name was Aisha-something. Ended up breaking up because I didn’t slang and wanted to stay a virgin. Guess you could say I wasn’t much of a bad boy then either. Which made Brian McKnight was the perfect role model. Gospel-influenced, smooth tenor, articulate and a multi-instrumentalist, he was pretty much everything I, a little ghetto yute getting bussed to white schools, wanted to be. Glad to see he’s still in the game and making it sound relevant.

Freeload: Jay-Z ft. Drake “Off That”+ “Reminder” + “Venus vs. Mars”

Off that is trill, but Reminder sounds like an old man trying to re-prove himself. Very un-gangsta. Nevertheless, Hov is still the King of Rap and I defy you to name anyone higher. At his ripe age (for an emcee) he’s well on his way to becoming the Rolling Stones of hip-hop.

Update: found this one just now and figured might as well throw it with all the other Jay. This track is ridiculous. Hotline: “Thought shawty like Mike, found out she like Prince/Thought she was Adrianne, it’s been Rocky every since.” Diamonds up.

Shakur + Will.i.am “Nadda Hoe”

I’m not publically usually into the freaky freak sex songs, but this jawn is funny and sexy at the same time. It doesn’t try too hard which, as any lady can tell ya, is never a good deal when it comes to uglyface time.
I have no idea who Shakur is though so if anyone wants to enlighten me, I’m all eyes ears.
